Welcome to Ghana!

After a little less than 10 hour flight, I arrived in Ghana the morning of January 3rd. Exhausted we wandered around the airport (about half of the group I am with was on the plane) and found our way outside. A man approached us wearing a button-down shirt, slacks and a Tweety Bird tie (and a small gold delta pin). He very aggressively wanted to help us, and offered us the use of his phone, which we used to call the folks who were supposed to pick us up. He then took the handle of our bags and pulled it back into the airport, cleared a row of seats for us, and told us to sit. Then, he demanded a tip from the member of our party whose bag he had rolled inside. When she told him she had only a dollar, he gave it back to her and told her five would be better. She refused, and he reluctantly left us alone. Somehow I don't think he was working for Delta.

Luckily our ride showed up about twenty minutes later, and we were off to the hotel. This is a scenario that I am told often occurs at the airport, so be aware if you are planning on landing in Accra. If help is offered, and you don't need it, just politely refuse.

We had a nice dinner at the hotel, even though a few of our group had not yet arrived.
